KinesiologyKinesiology tape hit the world stage in 2012 due to exposure during the 2012 Summer Olympics. It has now transitioned into the equine sports world in the form of Equi-Tape®. Equi-Tape® is completely different from athletic tape and other supports tapes in that it does not compress or constrict the tissue and allows for normal range of motion when applied. The adhesive on the tape attaches to the skin and hair and lifts the skin away from the underlying tissue. This lift opens up blood vessels and other vascular channels important for clearing inflammation and healing the tissue. This lift also decreases pressure on pain receptors thereby reducing pain sensation in injured tissue.

Equi-Tape®... |
Taping can be used in both the injured horse not in work and in active recovery as well as the active horse in training. In the injured horse Equi-Tape® helps assist healing and speed up recovery times. In the horse in training Equi-Tape® helps assist working muscles, preventing soreness and injury.
We commonly use Equi-Tape® for suspensory support, sacroiliac (SI) support, sore backs, improving circulation in legs with cellulitis and other swellings, and many other muscle or tendon/ligament injuries. Call the office to schedule an Equi-Tape® session. Some taping techniques can be taught to owners and used as needed. |
